The Impact Of Social Policies On Wellness Essay Example for Free
The Impact Of Social Policies On Wellness Essay The continual interdependence of states in global economic relations has necessitated debates on environmental, health and social related issues, making adoption and executions of policies the remedy for the various shortcomings in various sectors. Since policies are at the core of addressing major issues, the efficiency of health policies are affected by poverty, level of education and socio-economic status. (Leigh 2004:1-2) The impact of global policies on health, nonetheless has improved the quality of life, as more awareness is been mounted, the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) stands as a tool for measuring the impact of global and public policies on health. This cuts across environment, health, gender issues, and the continual relevance of policies has been seen in the EUââ¬â¢s adoption of policies to protect the environment and health. (Samuel Kefee 2007: 1-4) The role of governments stemming from the Federal governments still depends on adoption and execution of policies, the other tiers of government should work alongside the policies and ensure efficiency of services. The impact of Medicaid and other non-governmental organisations shows the role of networking and cooperation towards achieving efficiency and service delivery. The impact of health issues on welfare has refocused the direction of policies towards the health and environmental sectors. More funding needs to be directed at the Medicare services. The arguments of state welfarism and health have resulted in arguments of the best way to manage the welfare of citizens. The role of public or social policy in addressing the health, environmental and other issues is however crucial, the recent trend of paediatric obesity is associated with the United States Culture of consumption of energy dense foods and less exercise. ( Krishnamoorthy, etal 2006: 1-5) A need to turn around the whole situation requires effective policies and execution.

Letters Home :: Creative Writing Essays
Letters Home The vid screen is dark and ominous, as if it holds secrets that is not for the likes of men to know. John Poldeck, a middle aged, balding man of forty-eight steps forward toward screen and console to activate the beast, this oracle of silicon, plastic, and glass. Today John is hoping for word of his son Kirk, of whom nothing had been heard of since he left for UNDF Marine Corps training at Camp Lejune, South Carolina, a beacon for the phony tough and crazy brave looking for ill conceived adventure and glory. At least that was Johnââ¬â¢s opinion on the matter. As a mid level market analyst for the transnational ABSCOM John was used to battles fought with market shares, balance sheets, and stock options. For the forty years since the birth of the revamped United Nations war and the conductors of war, the military, had been a dying business. John could still remember the eager look on Kirkââ¬â¢s face when his son had uttered words like, duty, honor, patriotism, words which seemed as alien to John as the worlds the UN exploratory fleet claimed to have found. ââ¬Å"For Christââ¬â¢s sake John will you turn on the damn console? What the hell is wrong with you today?â⬠John glanced at June, his wife of twenty years and counting. Her dark skinned face was a sharp contrast to his pale complexion, and anger, tinged with concern for her son, clouded and darkened her visage even more. He looked at his wife without comprehension. ââ¬Å"What?â⬠June sighed, and then in a kinder tone, ââ¬Å"The console John. I know youââ¬â¢ve been angry ever since Kirk left for the Marines, hell youââ¬â¢ve been mad ever since he first brought up enlisting. A foolââ¬â¢s errand you called it. Perhaps youââ¬â¢re right. All I know is that he might have sent us a letter today.â⬠A foolââ¬â¢s errand. I remember when I said that John thought. That had been a nasty episode, one of many that had occurred during one of the endless fights he had had with Kirk over this business of enlisting. Try how he might he could never convince his son that business was where the opportunities were. Kirk had then coldly informed his father of his contempt for the Transnationals that now ran everything on Earth, including the UN, and his contempt for anybody connected to them.

Clean, Well-Lighted Place tone and style
Hemingway has a distinct writing style in a sense that he chooses his words carefully. He is economic in his word choice, so readers must take into consideration the adjectives and adverbs he uses, as he deploys them rarely. His style is simple and laconic, yet effective. Through his use of simple words and short sentences, he delivers the message powerfully and point on rather than employing descriptive, flowery language (as what his Victorian predecessors used). He is also said to be the aster of dialogue, using this mode to characterize and narrate most of the story, as was evident in ââ¬Å"A Clean Well-Lighted Placeâ⬠. Aside from the style and dialogue, another thing to take note about the story is that his tone is dispassionate and unemotional. The writer himself does not even comment on or Judge his characters at all. In the line ââ¬Å"â⬠You should have killed yourself last week,â⬠he [the waiter] said to the deaf man. Hemingway did not add any additional adject ives or adverbs for momentary like for example instead of writing, ââ¬Å"he said harshly' or ââ¬Å"he said cruelly he Just used a simple ââ¬Å"he saidâ⬠. The tone also adds to the theme of facing nothingness with dignity. The narrator is talking about oblivion in a detached, apathetic way which gives the reader the Impression that the nothingness affects the waiter enough for him to mention it, but his tone suggests he is bold enough to face the issue in dignified, dismissive way; I. E. After all, he said to himself, It's probably only insomnia.

Essay about Sigmund Freudôs Theory in Life of Pi by Yann...
Sigmund Freudââ¬â¢s Theory in Life of Pi Throughout my life I have always wondered about the conscious and unconscious mind and why humans act differently in different environments. The main theory that is used in the novel ââ¬Å"Life of Piâ⬠by Yann Martel is the Freudian theory. The first reason why the Freudian mind has a major role in Life of Pi is because it shows that Pi will act differently upon various situations and environments. Secondly, the Freudian mind shows us that there is the id, ego and superego, which overcome Piââ¬â¢s psyche and change his behavior. Lastly, Pi is consciously aware of all that is going on but the unconscious mind influences his personality and behavior without him even noticing. Although Pi is a human that is veryâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The component of the mind which is conscious and visible to see are the ego and superego, however the id is unconscious, hidden and is driven by things that make us feel satisfied and cannot contr ol it due to the pleasure. Although Pi is an animal lover and would never harm anything there was an animal inside him that is demonstrated after the pressure of survival took control of his mind (ID). Pi says ââ¬Å"It was a state of tense, breathless boredâ⬠(155). When a character is bored the id takes control to satisfy your demands. A reason that kept Pi alive is Richard Parker because Pi had to stay focused just in case he tried to attack him. To be a healthy individual you would need to have a balance between the id, ego, and the superego. In this situation if the id dominated the super ego Pi would have no reason to live since the super ego is fighting for survival. Another reason how the superego was balancing with the id is because Pi is a faithful person, he states ââ¬Å"I was giving up. I would have given up ââ¬â if a voice hadnââ¬â¢t made itself heard in my heartâ⬠¦ Yes so long as God is with me, I will not die. Amenâ⬠(186). These are some reaso ns how the id, ego and superego altered the way Pi behaved. Pi is consciously aware of all that is going on but the unconscious mind influences his personality and behavior without him even noticing. Pi was consciously organizing carefully how he was going to salvage his food so he does not run
